Archers from the 12 archery clubs of the Khasi Hills Archery Sports Association participate in the Shillong Teer game. As the archers aim for the arrows, participants predict the possible outcome of each match. Shillong Teer is not as easy as it sounds.
A set of rules framed by the Meghalaya’s Entertainment and Betting Tax Act govern the betting game. 50 archers are allowed to shoot a maximum of 30 arrows each in the first round and 20 each in the second round. The rules state that arrows can only be shot from a distance between 15.21 meters and 30.48 meters. If the archers do not limit themselves within the given range, they will be disqualified.
To predict correct results for the first round, participants are awarded Rs 80 for each Re 1 ticket purchased, while Rs 60 for each Re 1 ticket is awarded for a correct estimate in the second round.
On rare occasions, a participant makes correct predictions for both rounds. In such cases, the winner takes home Rs4000 for each Re 1 ticket.
